Buna! . . . Ethiopia Round 3, Day 20

This morning was coffee ceremony morning!  Or as "T" would say . . . COFFEE BUNA!!!  Hiwot, the cook at the guest house makes the most AMAZING coffee . . . ever!

She starts with green coffee beans.  They are roasted over a fire.  The color of the bean tells her when they are finished.

Then she uses a mortar and pestle to grind the roasted beans.  She heats the water in the coffee pot over the coals.  While all of this is happening there is the sweet aroma of incense wafting through the air.  The coffee grounds are added to the boiling water, heated and re-heated to supersaturate the coffee.  The only thing to add is sugar.  The coffee is so rich nothing else is needed.  It is seriously the best coffee I have ever had.  It is also probably the strongest too!  No need for a nap today!!!

Coffee ceremonies are usually accompanied by bread or popcorn as well.  Here at the guest house the popcorn is sugared as well!  Traditionally there are three rounds of coffee served during a coffee ceremony.

The power was out again, so we had to entertain ourselves in other ways.  The rest of the afternoon was filled with games and playing ball outside. There was a game of football (soccer) with the neighborhood kiddos.

Kevin and Josiah decided to have a push up contest.

And . . . I so graciously lost to Kevin and "M^" (again) at a couple games of Trouble!

For dinner Kevin, "M^" and I took a walk down to a restaurant called Fountain Pizza.  It's a fair walk which was nice.  It's also a local place instead of a fancy hotel restaurant.  We really like trying out those types of places to eat.  Good food and plenty of people watching!

Here is the rest of the tour of the guest house!  Our bedroom . . .

our bathroom . . .

A fantastic day relaxing and spending time with our daughter and friends!
