I bet you can guess what day 2 started with... yup! Loading up bags into the hotel shuttle. They fit, barely. It was an early morning at the airport. With Dulles being such a busy place and our family having so many bags, we needed to be there with plenty of time to spare.
The ticket counter felt like the "moment of truth" with the box. We've never tried to bring a hematology machine with us to Ethiopia. It was overweight and oversize. I have never prayed so fervently for my luggage. A minimal fee took care of the oversize part of the issue. However, the overweight portion was at the mercy of the TSA. The Ethiopian Airlines employee said sometimes they care and sometimes they don't, just luck of the draw. If they did care, Kevin would receive a phone call that the box was returned to the ticket counter. They would hold it there. It would be a long flight not knowing if the box was destined to make it to Addis Ababa with us... or not.
The girls enjoyed the architecture and train in the airport while we waited to board the flight. It would be a "fun" fourteen hours of airplane movies, airplane food, and maneuvering the tiny airplane bathrooms.
